Make a C&O Canal Centennial Commitment
In 2016, we are celebrating the Centennial of the National Park Service! We hope you will join us in acknowledging this exciting milestone by making a Centennial Commitment to your favorite unit of the National Park Service – the C&O Canal National Historical Park!
This Centennial Commitment is being sponsored by the C&O Canal Trust, the official friends group for the C&O Canal. The Trust works hand-in-hand with Park staff to promote the Park’s vast assets, address preservation and restoration concerns, and run a variety of programs, such as Canal Quarters and Canal Pride, that benefit you – the visitors to the C&O Canal!

Volunteer my time to the Park
By committing to volunteer your time in the C&O Canal National Historical Park, you are indicating your interest in participating in one of our three Canal Pride Day events (Saturdays in April and May, dates TBD), becoming a Quartermaster at one of our six Canal Quarters lockhouses, or volunteering with any of the Volunteer-in-Parks programs. When you make this commitment to volunteer, you will receive information via email on volunteer opportunities, and you are welcome to sign up for the event(s) that interest you the most. Help us preserve the Park for the next 100 years!
Become a social ambassador
Social ambassadors are park-lovers who are willing to share that love by spreading the word! If you have a large group of friends on Facebook and/or followers on Twitter, this is the opportunity for you! As a social ambassador for the C&O Canal Trust, you will help Trust staff share our social media posts so new folks learn about us and our work in the Park. By making this commitment to be a social ambassador, you will receive occasional messages from us to share with your networks. After filling out your commitment form, you will receive an email with the link to sign up as a social ambassador.
Buy a C&O Canal car magnet ($8) and put it on my car
Does your car spend a lot of time in C&O Canal parking lots while you visit the Park? Put it to work spreading the word about the C&O Canal Trust with a $8 car magnet! Choose your favorite Park activity from 12 magnet designs – fishing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, biking, walking, and more! After filling out your commitment form, you will receive an email with the link to purchase your car magnet.
Raise funds while I walk, run, or bike the towpath
Planning to walk, run, or bike a portion of the C&O Canal towpath? Or the entire 184.5? Hold your own fundraiser by asking your friends and family to support your efforts. We have a website tool that will make your fundraiser easy – you can build a page that will feature your efforts, give your followers updates, and show how much you have raised to support the C&O Canal! After filling out your commitment form, you will receive an email with the link to set up your fundraiser.
Make a donation to the Trust
We always welcome monetary gifts to the C&O Canal Trust to help us achieve our goals to preserve, restore, and protect the Park. Current goals include raising money to support preservation and restoration of recreational and natural resources in the Park, education programs, preservation of historic structures, and much more! Your support will be recognized through updates on how your donation is making a difference, and your name will be included in our yearly Honor Roll of Donors.
