John Brown Wax Museum
Since 1961, a museum with tight corridors and stark, haunting figures has created a seemingly timeless attraction in the center of Harpers Ferry. The John Brown Wax Museum tells the story of John Brown’s life and his ultimate demise after his group’s surprise attack on the federal armory in Harpers Ferry. Voice, music, and animation help bring events to life.
The museum is located on High Street in a building that actually existed in the time of John Brown’s raid. The National Park Service also preserves the downtown area circa 1859, with period clothing, craft demonstrations and re-creations—explained and acted out by Park Service guides.
