Invasive Species Removal Project at Carderock

Please join the Park, the Trust, and REI in a Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service event to remove invasive species from Carderock!

The C&O Canal National Historical Park follows the Potomac River for 184.5 miles between Georgetown and Cumberland, and is one of the most visited national park sites in the country. The C&O Canal Trust is the park’s official nonprofit partner, committed to supporting the park and local communities through fundraising initiatives, expanding accessibility and broadening support through programs that highlight the Park’s historical, natural, and cultural heritage.

Date: Saturday, January 18, 2025, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Location:  Carderock Recreation Area. 9500 MacArthur Blvd, Bethesda MD, 20817 (Map Link Here)

Parking: There are two parking lots around the Carderock Pavilion. Continue through the tunnel and go either left or right to park. 
Restrooms: Flush toilets are available and onsite
Accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible 

All ages are welcome, but parents do remain responsible for children the entire time. No drop-offs. Student Service Learning (SSL) hours are available; just bring your forms from the school and we’ll be happy to sign them.

We are currently reviewing form guidelines for volunteers in the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Please check back soon for updated information. Thank you for your interest in helping us keep the C&O Canal National Historical Park safe and welcoming for all!

Additional Notes:

Work supplies such as gloves, trash bags, and PPE will be provided. Bottled water and snacks will not be available onsite, so be prepared with your own provisions.  

Suggested Packing List:
Weather-appropriate layers, including hats and gloves
Warm sturdy shoes or boots
Water and snacks as desired
Sunglasses, chapstick, etc.
