Join the C&O Canal National Historical Park and the C&O Canal Trust for a peek at some of our local rocks! Virginia Tech PhD candidate Amy Hagen will take us on a virtual tour of the geologic history of the area and the fascinating evolutionary timeline preserved in the cliffs along the towpath. She will also describe her PhD research, which uses rocks from the Park to study the connections between an early animal extinction event, sea level change, and the Earth’s carbon cycle. No need to know anything about rocks: this will be an intriguing look at our planet’s layers for geology buffs and neophytes alike.
