No visit to the Canal Place Heritage Area in Cumberland is complete without visiting the bronze sculpture of the mule and mule driver by Maryland artist Toby Mendez. Located on the plaza beside the Western Maryland Railway Station, this tribute to the canal in its working days was completed in 2000. Beside the mule sculpture is the perfect spot to take a photograph before you take off to hike or bike the trail.
