The Great Falls Tavern was completed in the 1830s and served not only as a canal lockhouse, but also the earliest tourist attraction in the area. The main room downstairs was a tavern and restaurant, while upstairs there were several hotel rooms. Today, the Tavern contains hands-on exhibits on the canal and the Potomac Gorge.
