Take the quarter-mile walk from the Tavern out to the Great Falls Overlook. People have been awed by this 70-foot waterfall for hundreds of years. In the old days, swing bridges used to span the area out to Olmsted Island. However, flooding would periodically wipe out the bridge. The current handicap accessible boardwalk was built after the 1996 flood. Notice how the handrails are removable. This allows us to pull them to prevent flood debris from damaging the bridge.
