The C&O Canal Trust recently welcomed three new members to the Board of Directors, John Schnebly, Anthony Stacy, and Anne Wallace.
John Schnebly
John Schnebly served as the President of Keller Stonebraker Insurance in Hagerstown for 37 years, growing it from a one-man operation to a firm with an annual revenue of $5 million and 50 employees. He was elected to two terms on the Hagerstown City Council and one term on the Washington County Board of County Commissioners. Currently, he is the president of the Washington County Free Library board of trustees. He has also served as the president of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and as a board member of both the University System of Maryland – Hagerstown campus advisory council and the Hagerstown – Washington County Industrial Foundation.
John holds a degree in history from Wake Forest University and served a year in the United States Army Reserves during his college career. He and his wife Bobbi own a 19th century farmhouse on 20 acres along Antietam Creek near Funkstown and have two children and four grandchildren. He enjoys bicycling on the towpath and the Western Maryland Rail Trail, as well as “the mental torture of golf”.
Anthony Stacy
Anthony Stacy has over 25 years of experience working at the top levels in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors as well as higher education. He is currently a Strategic Operations Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton. He received his Master of Public Administration from The Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
Anthony is the former Chief of Staff for The Nature Conservancy’s Philanthropy Department, one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the world. He worked in the Ohio State Legislature, including Speaker of the House, and developed a school in Bucharest, Romania for young political leaders. He also helped launch two new Habitat for Humanity chapters and is a budget and personal finance counselor.
Anthony is a runner and outdoor enthusiast, completing two marathons and biking the C&O Canal towpath in the past three years. He lives in Alexandria, VA with his wife Deanna and their two children.
Anne Wallace
A longtime resident of Potomac, MD, Anne was a trustee on the board of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School for twelve years, including four years as the Board Chair. During that time, she led a campaign that raised $60,000 to build a school in Haiti. She also served for six years on the vestry of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Potomac and is currently a volunteer at Manna Food Center which distributes food to Montgomery County residents in need.
Anne holds a B.A. in Legal Studies from the University of Massachusetts. She has worked as a manager for a program offering services for people with developmental disabilities, operated by the Black Leadership and Christ Kingdom Society in Washington, D.C. She has also worked with the Mental Patient Advocacy Project where she trained paralegals to represent people with mental health issues. She and her husband, Rick, have four grown children. The Wallaces are frequent users of the C&O Canal NHP, and are members of the C&O Canal Trust’s William O. Douglas Society. Anne has a special interest in the Park’s Canal Classrooms program.
