Another structure composed of local materials, the Tonoloway Aqueduct carried canal boats and the towpath across Tonoloway Creek and was constructed between 1835 and 1839. Many of the natural resources used to build this grand structure came from limestone quarried upstream on Tonoloway Creek and cement from Captain Hook?s mill. However, in times of shortage, cement and other materials were transported from Botelor?s Mill in Shepherdstown and from as far as Baltimore, Maryland.
