The Canal Quarters program would not be possible without the dedicated efforts of the volunteers who oversee the lockhouses, provide periodic maintenance, and assist park visitors. The C&O Canal Trust's Quartermasters work in teams to regularly inspect the lockhouses. They provide the backbone of the Canal Quarters program and are invaluable links to the communities along the canal.
Kenny & Barbara Clopper live on Kenny's family farm along the C&O Canal close to Dam # 5 in the Clear Spring, Maryland, area. They are both retired and keep busy volunteering with local Clear Spring historical activities. 
Bob and Sue Stine grew up in Hagerstown and moved to Clear Spring five years ago. Along with their children, they spend a lot of time hiking along the canal and enjoy being members of the Friends of Fort Frederick and the Clear Spring Historical Society.
Hilary Walsh - Hilary loves the C&O Canal because of its peaceful tranquility. She became a Quartermaster to volunteer in a different aspect of the canal, having already worked as a volunteer at the Williamsport Visitor's Center and currently being a Level Walker for 2 different stretches. She has walked the entire length of the canal with her mother and hopes to one day to bike it with her son. Hilary is the proud mother of a 7 year old boy and working to instill in him a love of the outdoors, particularly the C&O Canal. She and her husband live in Hagerstown and work locally; she works at home as a hotel revenue manager for 14 hotels around the country.

The proceeds from Canal Quarters registrations support the ongoing efforts of the C&O Canal Trust to protect, restore, and promote the C&O Canal National Historical Park. The lockhouses in the program are overseen and maintained by volunteer Quartermasters for the use and enjoyment of park visitors.
